Apologies for the late notice, but to accommodate the AGU festivities this week, we postponed but will still host a CapSciComm happy hour this month:
Capital Science Communicators
Networking Social
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Bistro Michel
1501 14th Street, Sacramento, CA 95814*
We will be gathering in the bar section of the restaurant.
This month we will try something new: a featured researcher/communicator. Joining us on Wednesday will be Dr. Sara Kross (@Sara_Kross | website), a 2013 David H. Smith Conservation Research Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Davis and The Nature Conservancy. Dr. Kross will give a brief talk about her research as part of our meetup on Wednesday.
Dr. Kross’ research experience bridges ecological science and agricultural applications. Working alongside growers, industry partners and research colleagues, Kross studied the use of falcons as natural pest control for vineyards in New Zealand (yes — falcons). Now, her postdoc research seeks to test the use songbirds as natural pest control for Central Valley crops.
Moreover, Dr. Kross has a keen interest in science writing, and she is very eager to connect with professional journalists/writers and other researcher-communicators to seek advice and explore the tools and tips of our trade.
So our December happy hour promises to be a fantastic finale, especially for wine aficionados and environmental writers! Come join us as we wrap up our inaugural year of uniting science communicators in California’s Capital Region — see you Wednesday!
