Each month, Professor Jared Shaw with the UC Davis Department of Chemistry hosts the Davis Science Café, featuring scientists who are studying some of today’s cutting edge topics. This month’s speaker is Prof. Sonja Dieterich in the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center who studies unique approaches to radiation oncology. Invite a friend, and get here early to grab a seat at G. Street Wunderbar. Let’s drink to science!
Abstract: 40% of cancer patients receive radiation treatment as part of their treatments. How does radiation work to kill cancer cells, but leave the healthy cells (mostly) unharmed? Which technologies are in place now, or coming into clinics soon, to make treatments even better? Meet one of the 6 Medical Physics Faculty who work in the UC Davis Department of Radiation Oncology to talk about science & technology in the hospital.
