Aditi Risbud Bartl, PhD

Communications Director, UC Davis College of Engineering

Aditi Risbud Bartl recently joined UC Davis from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, where she served as Science Communication Officer. Aditi’s received a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC Davis and a Ph.D. from UC Santa Barbara. She is a graduate of the renowned UC Santa Cruz Science Writing Program, which launched a scicomm career with stops including the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, University of Utah, and Weber Shandwick. We are excited to welcome Aditi to our community!


Rachel Becker

Rachel Becker is a graduate of the prestigious MIT’s Graduate Program in Science Writing. Her news stories on the environment, wildlife, and life sciences have also been published in SmithsonianHakai MagazinebioGraphicSlateNatureNational Geographic News, and NOVA Next. She now writes for the science section of The Verge.


Gabby Nepomuceno, PhD

Gabby Nepomuceno has long been a familiar face to the CapSciComm network. She received a PhD in Chemistry from UC Davis, and was a 2016 CCST Science & Technology Policy Fellow, placed in the California State Assembly Business and Professions Committee. Now at DTSC, Gabby serves as an Independent Review Panel Liaison and as a Strategic Program Development Team Analyst. She is active in SACNAS, and co-instructed a chemistry camp for blind and visually-impaired teens while at UC Davis.

Meteorologist/Anchor, FOX40 News

Darren Peck is literally a familiar face to TV viewers in the Sacramento region, arriving at FOX40 in 2011. He received a degree from Cal State Northridge with an emphasis in Geomorphology and Climatology, then began his career in television as a meteorologist in Flagstaff, Arizona. Ask Darren why he says Northern California has the “best geography in the country” — and what his favorite “Know Your Neighbor” segments are!

 

All of our guests tonight are excited to engage with the CapSciComm community, and are eager to meet local students and professionals working in research and communications!
