Each month, Professor Jared Shaw with the UC Davis Department of Chemistry hosts the Davis Science Café, featuring scientists who are studying some of today’s cutting edge topics. This month’s speaker is Prof. Mark Schwartz in the UC Davis Department of Environmental Science & Policy who studies distributions of rare plants and how they are impacted by environmental factors.  Invite a friend, and get here early to grab a seat at G. Street Wunderbar. Let’s drink to science!

Abstract: Wildfire has caused more than $20 billion in damages in just four fires in the past two years; more than 100 people have died. Many argue that poor forest management is to blame. We will discuss what drives wildfire in California, how warming climates interacts with fire and the options California is facing for creating more resilient, safer forest environments for the 21st century.
